KiwiRail is in a period of significant transformation as we modernise and grow our rail and Interislander services across Aotearoa. The Manager – Property Acquisitions and Sales plays a critical leadership role in enabling this transformation by ensuring KiwiRail’s land portfolio supports network growth, project delivery and long‑term commercial outcomes.

 

In this role, you will lead the strategic and operational management of KiwiRail’s property acquisition and disposal activities. You’ll provide expert advice on Public Works Act processes, Crown land management, Treaty settlement obligations, while leading a team of property specialists and external advisors.

 

You will work closely with internal stakeholders, Crown agencies, iwi, local authorities and professional advisors to deliver transparent, well‑governed and commercially sound property outcomes in a complex and high‑visibility environment.

To succeed in this role, you will be a confident and experienced property leader with strong judgement and the ability to influence at senior levels. You will also bring:

 

  • Extensive experience in delivering complex land acquisition and disposal programmes
  • Strong knowledge of Crown land, property legislation and Public Works Act acquisition and disposal processes
  • Proven people leadership experience, including leading specialist teams and managing consultants
  • A solution-focused mindset and the ability to balance competing priorities effectively
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance risk, value and long‑term outcomes
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including experience working with iwi and Crown agencies
  • A recognised legal or property qualification, or equivalent professional experience
