He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role

As Senior RMA Advisor, you’ll play a vital part in safeguarding KiwiRail’s future. You’ll ensure we meet our obligations under the Resource Management Act while protecting and enhancing the operational integrity of our rail network.

 

You’ll provide expert planning and policy advice, lead the preparation of RMA documentation, and represent KiwiRail in hearings and external planning processes. Working with regional authorities, transport agencies, and internal teams, you’ll influence how land use and development shape the future of rail in Aotearoa.

 

This is an opportunity to use your planning expertise to support large-scale infrastructure projects and contribute to the modernisation of one of New Zealand’s most essential transport networks. 

 

Ngā pukenga e rapu nei mātou | What you will bring

You’ll bring strong technical expertise, sound judgement, and a collaborative mindset. Specifically, you will have:

 

  • At least 6 years’ experience working with the RMA, ideally in both public and private sectors

 

  • Proven experience in strategic planning, policy development, and managing planning risks

 

  • Confidence representing organisations in hearings and preparing evidence

 

  • Strong relationship-building skills with external agencies and internal stakeholders

 

  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to work independently

 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

 

Qualifications:

 

  • A planning qualification recognised by the NZPI (or equivalent experience)

 

  • Eligibility for Full Membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI)

 

  • A current and valid New Zealand driver’s licence
