He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role
In this role you’ll operate trains safely and efficiently across the Northland network to meet customer and operational requirements. This is a safety-critical role where your decisions directly support the reliability of our network.
You will:
- Operate locomotives in accordance with the Rail Operating Code and KiwiRail standards
- Manage train handling including signals, systems, and track conditions
- Carry out inspections, brake tests, and fault reporting
- Maintain accurate documentation using digital tools
- Work a 24/7 rotating roster, including nights, weekends, and public holidays
- Demonstrate leadership in safety leader, professionalism and teamwork

- Recognised Locomotive Engineer certification in New Zealand
- Current Category 1 medical and NZ driver’s licence
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance, clear communication and effective teamwork
- Confidence in a shift-based, 24/7 operating environment
- Strong situational awareness and risk management skills
