He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role

In this role you’ll operate trains safely and efficiently across the Northland network to meet customer and operational requirements. This is a safety-critical role where your decisions directly support the reliability of our network.

You will:

  • Operate locomotives in accordance with the Rail Operating Code and KiwiRail standards
  • Manage train handling including signals, systems, and track conditions
  • Carry out inspections, brake tests, and fault reporting
  • Maintain accurate documentation using digital tools
  • Work a 24/7 rotating roster, including nights, weekends, and public holidays
  • Demonstrate leadership in safety leader, professionalism and teamwork

  • Recognised Locomotive Engineer certification in New Zealand
  • Current Category 1 medical and NZ driver’s licence
  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance, clear communication and effective teamwork
  • Confidence in a shift-based, 24/7 operating environment
  • Strong situational awareness and risk management skills
